Located in Gréoux-les-Bains, in the heart of the Verdon Regional Nature Park and just a stone’s throw from the Luberon, Camping La Pinède is the perfect starting point for exploring Provence. Enjoy a nature-filled stay without long daily drives, alternating between swimming, hiking in the Verdon, and exploring authentic villages.

Swimming and canoeing at Lake Esparron: wilderness just 15 minutes away

Just 15 minutes from the campground, Lake Esparron is a hidden gem of wilderness created by the Verdon Dam in an ancient limestone canyon. More peaceful and unspoiled than major tourist sites, its turquoise waters are home to a discreet array of wildlife: gray herons, kingfishers, and mallards regularly visit the shaded shores lined with reeds and riparian forests. It’s the perfect spot to rent a canoe or a paddleboard, or simply take a swim at the base of the limestone cliffs, with your eyes wide open to an untouched lake ecosystem.

The Valensole Plateau and its lavender fields (15 minutes away)

A must-see in Haute-Provence, the Valensole Plateau is one of the largest areas in Europe dedicated to the cultivation of lavandin and true lavender. From mid-June to mid-July, rows of purple flowers stretch as far as the eye can see beneath the deep blue Provençal sky. In this postcard-perfect setting, buzzing withhoneybees and butterflies —the flambé and the swallowtail are regulars—meeting with local producers becomes a true introduction to the natural and agricultural heritage of Provence.

Kayaking and limestone cliffs: the Lower Verdon Gorges, just 35 minutes away

From Quinson, explore the Lower Verdon Gorges by electric boat or kayak, far from the hustle and bustle of tourist sites. This secluded route runs along limestone cliffs plunging up to 300 meters, covered with boxwood, holm oaks, and rock-clinging vegetation. Look up: griffon vultures, reintroduced to the Verdon in the 1990s, regularly soar above the gorges in search of thermal currents. Below, prehistoric caves bear witness to human occupation dating back several millennia in this exceptional natural corridor.

The Verdon Grand Canyon and Lake Sainte-Croix (45–60 minutes away)

Ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is a spectacular stop along the Grand Canyon route. About an hour’s drive away, visit iconic sites such as the Pont de Galetas, Lake Sainte-Croix, and the famous Route des Crêtes to admire the highest viewpoints in the Verdon.

Castellane and whitewater sports

For thrill-seekers, head to Castellane. This hub for nature tourism in the Verdon is the perfect starting point for rafting, canyoning, orhydrospeed in the heart of the canyon. Local operators offer guided excursions for participants ages 12 and up, providing a total immersion in the Verdon’s wildest gorges.
